Lisa Chung started Uyoung Media in Beijing as a pure advertising agency in 2000, the company was located in Beijing’s Silicon Valley.
In the year following, Uyoung was commissioned by Disney to present Disney Animation World’s advertising sales in China exclusively, this is a whole new beginning for Uyoung from where Uyoung determined its focus on kids’ media.
After acquiring the broadcasting and distributing rights for Japanese classic animations Doramen 2 and Soccer Boy in 2003, Uyoung launched its content operation business. The library kept growing with more and more outstanding works being acquired.

In 2005, Uyoung passing another milestone with taking Beijing kid’s full channel and CCTV kids’ full channel advertising sales successively. Continuous honors following and more kids’ channels’ joining confirmed Uyoung’s reputation as well as establishing Uyoung as a household name within industry.
In 2006, Uyoung invested in Xueyou Garden Education & Media Group with the ambition to syndicate broadcasting and publishing and realize 1+1>2. As one of China’s strongest publication distributors in kids realm, the partnership with Xueyou Garden opened Uyoung’s new chapter in publishing.
In 2008, Uyoung invested on Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf movie which turned out to be the hottest animation in China. It pulled over 100 million RMB’s domestic box office and made Pleasant Goat a huge hit in 2008. This success was replayed by the McDull movie and the second Pleasant Goat movie’s releasing in 2009 which broke the box office for Chinese made animations again! With these adorable sheep sweeping through entire nation, Uyoung’s leading role in kids media was further strengthened.
In late 2008, Uyoung was commissioned by BBC to present its world-famous property In the Night Garden exclusively in China. The deal included rights on broadcasting, digital media, publishing and merchandising. Uyoung rocked the work with a new yet professional licensing team and the work of which was confirmed by BBC and LIMA.
In 2009, Uyoung invested and produced two hit animation TV series: Rainbow Sea and Mojospy. While Rainbow Sea was a perfect combination of Chinese cuisine and Kungfu, Mojospy was adapted from one of the best selling crime novels and the TV series of which were added a lot of vintage art elements of one hundred percent Chinese flavor. Mpjospy ‘s first season was launched on CCTV during prime time since December, 2010 and rating of which kept climbing up!
In 2010, Uyoung met top production house Aardman Animations from UK in Asia Television Forum and they totally hit it off at once. As four times’ Oscar winner and the receiver for a plethora of international awards, Aardman commissioned Uyoung for its TV hits Shaun the Sheep and Timmy Time. The full-rights deal was expected to tap these two brands’ Chinese market of a 1.3 billion population and further secure Uyoung’s comprehensive leading role in kids media. Shaun had its debut on CCTV during 2010 summer vocation, and the licensing business will start imminently with a promising future.
At the same year, Uyoung leveraged its media resources covering over 100 major cities in China started Ukids National Broadcasting Network who was formerly named Baohulu Club. To boost Ukids, Ukids Cartoon magazine was launched and average monthly selling of which achieved 300 thousand volumes through Xueyou Garden ‘s strong distribution system to China’s 2.6 million children.
From Lisa’s tabletop beginnings, Uyoung has gown into China’s No.1 kids media. Today, Uyoung has built partnership with CCTV, three major satellite kids channels and over 30 local kids channels in China and has China’s largest high quality animation content library, becoming China’s biggest animation aggregator and distributor. With Pleasant Goat and Mojospy’s success, Uyoung has fulfilled its role from a distributor to a producer and property owner and grabbed a hot spot on animation’s production chain. Nailing In the Night Garden and preparing its best for upcoming Shaun the Sheep and Timmy Time, Uyoung’s licensing business is prospering vehemently. Uyoung is spreading great animations and happiness for kids and family, reflecting the talent, energy and commitment of all the people who comprise Uyoung group.
